A Jar of Honey from Mount Hybla by Leigh Hunt, first edition. Illustrated by Richard Doyle and published by Smith, Elder in 1848. A fine example of a ninteenth century binding in glazed boards. This was done by Owen Jones in blue, green and gold. These are fragile bindings and this one is well preserved. There are some losses where the spine meets the boards, some bumping of the corners and slight soiling to the cover but essentially the cover is in very good condition. The original end-papers are attractive and in tact with a name-plate as shown in the photos of "C.J. Peacock". The text block has gilt edges. There is some slight foxing as seen in the early pages (see photo of title page) but the later pages are largely clean. Overall a very good example.
