British Fresh-Water Fishes by William Houghton first edition, two volumes.Published by William Mackenzie in 1879. 41 colour printed, wood engraved plates with tissue guards. Numerous text illustrations by A.F.Lydon. wonderful , original red/brown cloth bindings with gilt and black lettering and illustrations. The edges of the text block are gilt.
These are large books (370x285) in excellent condition,hence postage will not be insignificant.
Volume 1 has a cover in excellent condition. There is slight bumping to the ends of the spine and corners  and slight fading to the gilt on the illustration. There is slight soiling on the covers.There is very slight foxing scattered through the book. The colour on the pictures is clean. Volume 2 is in much the same condition. There is perhaps a little more fading to the detail on the spine and a little more foxing to the early pages but very little foxing through the rest. A superb pair of books.
