Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain. The true first edition published by Chatto and Windus in 1883 (Catalogue March,1883). This preceded the American edition by five days. It is bound in red cloth with a gilt title and black pictorial decorations on the cover. There are numerous illustrations throughout and 32 pages of ads at the back. The early pages show foxing as indicated by the photo of the title page, which also has a previous owner's name, but otherwise the book shows very slight foxing only. The cover shows some wear on the edges of the spine in particular and slight bumping of the edges. The text block edges are browned. The front paste down has a small bookseller's label and on the following page there is a previous owner's bookplate (David Miller). This is a very good copy.
