The Scarlet Swirl by"Mythrilla" very rare. Now here is a book with quite a history. It was privately published in 1940 with Arthur Stockwell Ltd. with the author's pseudonym "Mythrilla". It apparently sold at most six copies as a detective/mystery story. The book happened to be reviewed in a less than favourable light by the Sydney Morning Herald and the author, Becky Gardiner, unsuccessfullu sued for defamation and libel. The case has been quoted widely. Curiously this copy has a number of pencil annotations of criticism, which in the context of the law case, asks some interesting questions as to whom owned this copy, especially as only six at most copies were sold. It is tempting to believe it may have been owned by the Herald's literary critic. There is no DW ( may never have been one) and the boards are red with some fading on the spine. Lettering is gilt and clear. There is some foxing throughout on the pages and their edges.
Valuing this for sale could reasonably be described as challenging.
