The Story of Patsy by Kate Douglas Wiggin. A hard-cover published by Gay and Bird in 1894. Probably the first UK edition. Lovely illustrations but what makes this special is the signature dated 1904 with an annotation. Kate Wiggin was greatly involved with the education and rights of young children. The quote on the free front page reads " They are weeping in the playground of the others
In the country of the free"
A quote from an Elizabeth Browning Barrett poem who was also actively involved in the protection of young children from child labour. Book has some light wear and minimal foxing.
