A Statistical, Historical and Political Description of the Colony of New South Wales and its Independent Settlements in Van Dieman's Land by W.C. Wentworth. Hard-cover published by Whittaker's in 1820. This is the second and enlarged edition with a view of the town of Sydney and a map of New South Wales as shown in the photos. The book is three-quarter bound with calf's leather and obviously has wear to the original boards. The spine appears in very good condition with gilt lettering and motifs and is best seen in the photo. There are newspaper articles from the early twentieth century related to Wentworth attached to the front paste-down and FFP as well as some annotations and part of a book-plate, seen in the photo above. The map is present and complete. The title page and preliminaries show some foxing but otherwise the pages are quite clean and the binding is tight.
